The artist

Simon Beames.

Twenty-six years ago I picked up a trowel in Manchester, England, learning from an Italian craftsman. Tile taught me everything I know about surfaces, structure and patience. Today that craft goes entirely into mosaic art.

From tile to art

The trowel came first. The art is what stuck.

I spent two decades in Colorado setting tile the right way — showers, floors, backsplashes — and somewhere along the way the mosaics stopped being the accent and became the whole point. The Glass Lion is where that work lives now: hand-cut glass and stone mosaics, murals and commissions, drawn for the space and built to outlast trends.

I don’t create trends that last minutes. I create work that lasts decades — the same discipline I brought to tile, aimed entirely at art.
